A direct question is best sidestepped before noon. Ask for time to think, say you’ll answer later, and you’ll avoid the trouble that follows a firm answer. It’s quite important to stand on formality today. Dress well, behave as society dictates for a person in your position, play the part assigned to you. Be someone’s role model. Bernard Malamud said, “Without heroes, we are all plain people and don’t know how far we can go.” What’s good today? Happy times with a partner, a good resolution to a vexing problem, and being someone’s hero.
