I woke up today sobbing over the loss of Kyabje HH Penor Rinpoche. How devastating to Palyul, and to me.

Never having seen the loss of the head of a Lineage before I was completely unprepared for it. Seems every day His absence is felt more.

He was the wellspring, the builder, the guardian, font of wisdom and compassion. He was unfailingly kind to me. I could always turn to Him.

Now that things have changed I see His Purity, Power, Intention, Selflessness, Loving Concern and Imperturbable Heart. He is Peerless!

May I follow Him in this and every future lifetime. And always be reborn in His entourage! May my storehouse of Merit in the three times please!

And return Him to us, Palyul swiftly, and His activity be endless. Kye Ho! Beloved Guru return to us for the sake of Palyul and ALL beings.

A serious situation appears early in the day, or else you may have a nightmare or negative premonition during the night that puts you out of sorts.  Today it’s hard to make up your mind, you feel indecisive and uncertain.  Be aware that you may not have enough information to make a reasonable decision regarding the issue.  Avoid the temptation to discuss your indecision with everyone you meet, and especially avoid asking others for advice.  This will only cause you more indecision and move you farther away from your own inner wisdom.  Wait, sit tight, and enjoy the happiness that is in the environment.  Answers will come in time.

A situation requiring utmost diplomacy presents itself.  The one being critiqued is extremely kind and loving so tread gently.  Abrupt or cold words will need to be recanted tomorrow, so why not refrain from using them today? No harm, no foul! One lone person could be standing up to a group of like thinkers, and if that person is you do not back down.  Your points have merit.  State your position and show that you are aware of the merits of the other side. An issue from last fall is slowly, slowly starting to resolve.  It will take time but when the change comes you will move forward immediately.

Women and children balance the equation with work and support.  A change in the environment can occur today.  This is favorable.  You could feel under the weather or catch a cold today so bundle up. If you take a sick day you will enjoy it.  Something will come along and take such good care of you that you hope this lasts forever.  Medicines are effective and happiness is in the air.  The loungers are happy and the workers are happy!  You will laugh off any criticism that comes your way today.  This attitude could be the best medicine.

Overconfidence!  You have it.  Buoyed up by recent successes you overreach, and you meet some stiff opposition.  Be very aware of what you are doing, your expectations, assumptions and how you are presenting yourself.  YOU could be the problem today.  Robert Burns said in Scottish that needs little translation, “O would some power the giftie gie (give) us to see ourselves as others see us.”  Put yourself in the other person’s shoes today.  Look at yourself and what you are doing, and then proceed.  Your ego will shrink and you will succeed.

You can “take on” an institution or a person who intimidated you in the past.  You’ve grown enough to be the champion of the underdog or the defender of a necessary personal cause.  Good.

Hidden things are uncovered.  If you have a secret be assured that it will be revealed, so the sooner you fess up the easier things will go.  Better to be the first to tell than to be “outed” by someone else.  People are forgiving, luckily, and a new door opens.

Give Rise to the Bodhicitta

Have you thought about the welfare of sentient beings today? Remembered those hungry, sick, old, grieving, warring, without hope?

After contemplating the suffering beings in cyclic existence, have you felt mercy, compassion, concern, sadness, grief, a wish to help?

Have you wondered at the meat on your plate? The suffering of the animal? We want the animal’s fur, skin, meat, have you considered this?

Have you seen human beings sleeping in the street? Homeless, addicted, dysfunctional, addled? Families that have lost everything?

Have you seen dogs and cats, family pets, dropped off at a shelter because they are inconvenient? And then killed for the same reason?

Have you seen slaughterhouses? The look on a pet’s face when it knows it is being sent to die? The terrible suffering of animals?

Have you seen the heinous nature of war? The suffering of people returning home shattered? The horror of nations torn apart by hate and war?

Has it bothered you that women in some countries are mutilated to be pleasing to the men? Women treated as property, worse than cattle?

If these things have bothered you, maybe caused a tear, if you see and are moved- MAYBE, just maybe you are ready to learn to pray.

If you ache for the confusion and suffering of beings, if you cannot bear to see such suffering, Maybe, just maybe- compassion lives in you.

Are you ready to dedicate yourself in this and every future life to heal suffering in all forms? Maybe, maybe you gave rise to the Bodhicitta.
