Astrology for 3/23/2016

3/23/2016 Wednesday by Norma

A kindhearted person makes suggestions that are out of touch with the tone of the times: encouraging a game of patty cake when everyone wants to run a marathon, for example. Retract the suggestion with a smile. It’s a time for speed, not for sitting. Wayne Lucas said, “The speed of the leader determines the rate of the pack.” A message from afar is encouraging and assertive behavior is rewarded. It’s a favorable time to initiate a project, to put yourself on a diet and exercise program, to firmly state what you will and will not do. It’s also a great time for artists, dreamers and visionaries.

Dedication

The following is from a series of tweets by Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo:

May all sentient beings be fully satisfied in both relative and ultimate ways. May all who hunger and thirst for pure and deep Dharma be fully satisfied. May all who pray for more have twice as much. May all who crave what belongs to others have twice that, and all causes accompanied by all qualities and activities. May all who suffer in any way be mine to bear. OM TARE TUTTARE TURE SOHA! In the three times, to the three jewels, I dedicate all merit. To Palyul I dedicate. To haters, to the sick, to the poor, to the planet in peril, to animal rescue. Gratitude.

And of course, the Root of all accomplishment…Tsewei Lama Kyabje Third Drubwang His Holiness Pedma Norbu Rinpoche, Padmasambhava Himself as he found me again!

Astrology for 3/22/2016

3/22/2016 Tuesday by Norma

If you don’t hear from the person you contacted, something’s stalled at their end so wait. Move forward with things directly in front of you. Avoid the tendency to set your heart on a single outcome, something else may be more attainable right now. Everyone is thinking and talking fast, and repartee is highlighted. Spend time debating, discussing and analyzing. Something hidden has come into the open bringing enthusiasm with it. A time of sadness or fear has drawn to a close. Disney said, “The flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest and most beautiful of all.” It’s a time of tremendous happiness and inspiration, the sort that creates an artist, a poet and a lifesaver. Be inspired and keep working.

Recycling in Worldly Existence

The following is an excerpt from a teaching by His Holiness Penor Rinpoche on Meditation, reprinted here with permission from Palyul Ling International:

In this world, as we were born as human beings, we need to have something beneficial that we can do. In general, we have some kind of activity by which to earn our livelihood, just to have something to eat and drink. Of course, not only human beings, but also animals know how to live their lives in this way. As we were born human, we can talk and understand language and meaning. That is the specific characteristic of a human being. So based on that we need to have some ultimate benefit that we can achieve within this lifetime.

Generally speaking, two main activity categories we can engage in: our normal worldly activities and then the Dharma activities. But the majority of the world’s people become very busy with worldly activities rather than following some kind of spiritual practice. These worldly works or activities are based on one’s capabilities and power and skill, and of these there are many different levels – some have more or better and some have less.

However, whatever worldly activities that we complete, whether or not they are good or meaningful, they will only endure for a few months or years. There is not anything within these activities that we can ultimately rely on. For example, from young childhood we pursue educational training, from first grade until graduation. For almost fifteen or twenty years we work very hard and study so that we can get a specific job. Then if through one’s job one becomes more successful, then possibly in twenty or thirty years we consider that we have a better or happier life. And if during all that time, if we have a very pure and sincere mind in all these works, then of course there is some benefit which is known as virtuous action. But there are also those that have the qualifications to do these activities but who have so much ego or arrogance or pride that their works, even if completed, are not really beneficial in this lifetime.

So many human beings consider the benefit for their individual selves as the most important thing. The result is we are all re-cycled over and over in what is called Samsara or the cyclic existence.

We cannot really establish or find out how long we have been drifting about in Samsara or cyclic existence. No one can know for certain how many lives we have taken in this world – one hundred, one thousand, ten thousand, perhaps one million lifetimes. We cannot calculate the countless aeons of times we have been reborn in this world, in this Samsara.

Sometimes we were able to fulfill some of our wishes and sometimes we could not. For this life, from the time we have taken birth from our mother’s womb until now, whatever our ages, we have been constantly thinking about our own benefit and how we can be more happy people. All of our education and financial developments are all just for one’s own benefit. There is not anything left out that one has not thought of for one’s own benefit.

However, whatever we do, fulfill or complete in this lifetime is mainly based on our Karma, the action, of what we have done in our many past lifetimes. One cannot complete one’s every wish immediately because of the Law of Karma. Because have never developed their spiritual side, they mainly have deluded minds. So they are not able to understand the causes and conditions based on the Law of Karma. They can only think of what is happening today, and have no idea what is really going on. They don’t have a deeper level of understanding of these spiritual practices and so they don’t understand what is involved in past lifetimes and future lifetimes. It is because of their obscurations or ignorance that they don’t have any clear understanding about the causes and conditions. They really don’t know anything about the Law of Karma.

Astrology for 3/21/2016

3/21/2016 Monday by Norma

Hard charging energy is par for the course. Everyone is enthusiastic, rarin’ to go! Ready, set, go…but where? Careful planning is necessary at this time to avoid wasting the energy that’s present, and you don’t want to discourage someone who’s ready to participate. Pre-think your agenda when meeting with others and have your plan at hand. An opposition between dreams and outcomes exists. Set specific, detailed tasks and dole them out to those asking for something to do. Napoleon Bonaparte said, “A leader is a dealer in hope.” What’s good today? The fun of participating in a project, a dream that can be realized, and work in the service of something that really matters.

Astrology for 3/20/2016

3/20/2016 Sunday by Norma

The clouds part and a hero appears! You’ve moved past an inward time and are back in the game. Put the burst of energy to work and rely on a confident leader. Five planets in fire signs open new doors, and new possibilities beckon. Vince Lombardi said, “If you aren’t fired with enthusiasm, you’ll be fired with enthusiasm” It is time to begin your challenge. Listen carefully to an inner voice that sends you in one direction, away from another, the way a skier glides down a slope moving from side to side, avoiding obstacles. The combination of energy and intuition works well today, pay attention. Water sports are excellent, light, bright places are good, and people who inspire you should be heeded.

All Sentient Beings

An excerpt from a teaching by Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo from the Vow of Love series

One of the most important and central thoughts in Buddhist philosophy is the idea of compassion. The Buddha taught that we must cultivate our lives as a vehicle to be of benefit to all sentient beings.  It’s good that you’re a good mother, and it’s good that you’re a good friend, but we can’t limit ourselves to a small, familiar circle. We have to go on and on increasing our compassionate activity, our influence and our determination until we attain a level of kindness or compassion that supersedes what we believe is reasonable. We can’t stop even with our nation. We can’t think that we only want to help Americans. Nor can we stop with our world. We can’t think that we only want to help humans and animals, which are the ones that we can see. We have to think, according to the Buddha, that we wish to be of benefit to all sentient beings.

A sentient being is one who has sensory feeling or the development of that kind of discriminating consciousness. According to the Buddha’s teachings, there are six realms of cyclic existence, and there are sentient beings in all of these realms. The human realm and the animal realm are visible to us. This is living proof that at least some of the Buddha’s teaching is right. We see human beings and we see animals; therefore, we know that they exist. But according to the Buddha’s teaching, there are also non-physical beings and different kinds of beings that must be considered if we are to truly develop the mind of compassion.

Limiting ourselves to an identity such as,”I am a woman,” or “I am a man,” or “I am an American,” or “I am a Russian,” or even “I am a citizen of planet earth,” is not the way of the Buddha. Instead, we should think that on every particle we can see, and all those that we cannot see, and in every inch of space, there are millions and millions of sentient beings. And space goes on forever. If we intend to develop the mind of kindness, it must extend to all sentient beings equal to the limits of space.  Space has no limits and there are limitless beings, seen and unseen.  Therefore, we must extend the mind of compassion to beings far beyond those we can conceive of with our brains. That is an awesome thought. How can we really do that? We think that must be impossible. How can we be directly concerned with somebody we can’t see? How can we really care about something that might be infinitesimally small, like bacteria? Or a sentient being that may be as large as a galaxy? How can we seriously consider we must be kind to all sentient beings in that way?

Astrology for 3/19/2016

3/19/2016 Saturday by Norma

Feeling frustrated, with more to do than time to do it? Relax, it’s true! Double back and ask the boss (or yourself if self-employed) for a reduced schedule, or at least a bit of prioritization. Working harder doesn’t help, you need a different way of doing things, which will lead to success once you change. Idealistic principles are the problem, and an attitude that won’t let you rest must be reviewed. If the biblical injunction, “Idle hands are the devil’s workshop,” drives you to work day and night, reconsider. A happy inspiration appears today, a generous and magnetic person perks things up and gets you moving. Pay close attention to what inspires you and brings happiness, and head in that direction.

This Journey

The Journey
The Journey

From the birth of yearning
To the moment of recognition
The path, this journey, is method.

One’s true nature the precious seed-
Buddha ground.
One’s journey, this path-  the method.
The awakening- this fruit- the treasure.
How astonishing!

The ground, the path, the fruit are Buddha.
Praise to the Nirmanakaya Buddhas who walk the earth!
Praise to the sons and daughters who follow them!

May I myself return again and again for them.
May I never grow weary, or bored of helping them.
May I nurture, teach, and feed them precious fruit.
May I never abandon the supreme samaya!

Astrology for 3/18/2016

3/18/2016 Friday by Norma

A burst of happy energy kicks off the day, providing a much needed jump-start to activities. A confident, sunny person is encouraging and offers genuine help. Multiple planets in Pisces favor activity associated with nurturing, healing, creativity and imagination. All good, except for a subtle attitude of fear, which changes today. A block is swept aside and a long-term concern is alleviated. The Dalai Lama said, “You are in danger when you allow sorrow, sadness, anxiety, fear and discouragement to invade you, isolating you and amplifying your self-centeredness.” If this has applied to you, it’s gone. Use the new spirit to reach out to others, to move forward in your plans, and to be happy.
